Position: Senior Manager, LSS Engineering

Job Purpose:
As a senior member of the MLP team the Senior Manager LSS Engineering is responsible for the leadership, development, planning and management of all aspects of the Oceanarium Engineering to ensure all systems and facilities are operated to the highest standards as it relates to the water quality and equipment. The Senior Manager makes certain policies and procedures are in place and maintained to ensure the safety of our staff and marine animals at all times.
Critical Accountablilities:
- Provides direction to the entire department in terms of LSS Engineering operations and safety ensuring best practices are followed at all times.
- Functionally literate in all aspects of system automation, and total physical plant operation and maintenance, including ozone, process medium wave UV, chlorine dioxide production. Thorough knowledge of pumps, chilled water systems, bio-reactors and foam fractionation on a large scale, start-up scenario.
- Develop procedures to maintain all LSS equipment throughout entire operation.
- Ensure the highest quality of water in all MLP tanks and pools to ensure the health of our marine animals.
- Coordinates and manages the work of all team members and ensures proper protocols are followed by all team members.
- Develops and administers annual operating budget.
- Develops pre-opening equipment budget and spare parts inventory to ensure proper maintenance of equipment and facilities.

Position: Crew Life Support System(LSS) Engineering

Job Purpose:
As a member of the LSS Engineering team the Crew is responsible for the daily maintenance of the LSS equipment and crew duties to ensure all aquarium special hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems and facilities are operated to the highest standards as it relates to the water quality for marine animals and fishes. The Crew shall observe all SOP and safety considerations at all times.
Critical Accountablilities:
- Ensure the highest quality of water in all MLP tanks and pools to ensure the health of the marine animals.
- Familiar with the basic operation of pumps, filters, system automation. Familiar with PVC plumbing materials / repairs. Basic understanding of electrical and domestic water systems.

Position: Life Support Technician

The position is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, repair and monitoring of all aspects of life support and mechanical systems of the Zoo’s water exhibits. Work involves conducting water tests and analysis, preventive maintenance, along with reading plans and blueprints. Responsibilities will include support of related equipment used for diving and responding to mechanical problems arising during dives. The specialist will communicate with Animal Care staff regarding pertinent information relating to life support systems. This is a full-time hourly position, reporting to the Operations Supervisor. Must be on call for emergencies and may work varied shifts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts repairs on all life-support and facility mechanical systems, including, but not limited to: fresh and salt-water pumps, filters, heat exchangers, valves, pressure regulators and automation equipment, low-voltage systems, building hardware, plumbing and other duties as deemed necessary to maintain facility operations.
- Maintain proper water quality using sanitizers, ozone and other chemicals
- Maintain water chemistry, including salinity, PH levels and other parameters
- Maintain proper water filtration for turbidity/clarity
- Responsible for maintaining accurate records.
- Performs various troubleshooting techniques related to system problems and/or malfunctions
- Assists in maintaining clean work environments
- Assists in the design of new filtration systems
- Assists Supervisor in ordering and stocking of all necessary chemicals, equipment and supplies.

Qualifications Skills and Abilities:
- Four years paid full time or part time equivalent experience in water treatment, mechanical maintenance or laboratory work; or a degree from an accredited college in Biology or other natural science plus two years’ experience in mentioned areas of work.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships and to function in a team environment with limited supervision
- Knowledge and understanding of water chemistry and water quality parameters, analysis, filtration systems etc.
- Experience with salt and fresh water systems
- Experience with USDA marine mammal standards related to water quality.
- Good working knowledge of hydraulic/pumping, automated control and filtration/disinfection systems as well as knowledge of electricity, interpreting values on machinery and gauges
- Proven troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Working knowledge of water filtration systems
- The ability to work on ones feet for extensive periods of time ,in adverse conditions (e.g. cramped spaces and wet environment).
- Must be fully capable of reading technical drawings, technical specifications and written repair/maintenance procedures with minimum supervision.
- Must be able to lift safely up to 80+ pounds
- Computer literate
- Must be able to pass swimming and water safety test.
- Familiarity with RCK control automation a plus
