AALSO Emergency Response Committee (ERC) and ZDR3
Over the last few years, AALSO has been trying to establish a resource for facilities that house aquatic animals after they are affected by a disaster. We have identified the need for specialized equipment and skilled operators to assist in the recovery and restoration of services after a facility is damaged.
Through round table discussion and exploring emergency protocols
at different Zoos and Aquariums we were introduced to an established emergency
response organization based out of Texas called ZDR3. ZDR3 is the largest zoological disaster
response organization in the US. They
have a large network of facility members covering 37 states and US
territories.
AALSO is working on building a relationship with ZDR3 to
help fill in the need for the specialized care needed to help out aquatic
animal facilities during and after an emergency.
Check back often to see how this partnership grows, and how
you can volunteer to help grow our efforts to ensure that all facilities are
cared for in the unfortunate event they suffer damage from a natural disaster.
More info on ZDR3 can be found at their website www.ZDR3.org
