The Houston Zoo LSS/Water Quality Department is adding to the team! Are you looking to take your LSS skills to the next level? We are looking for mechanically inclined go-getters to join the LSS/Water Quality Team in opening a brand new, first of its kind Galapagos exhibit, including a 200,000gal aquarium, 255,000gal Sea Lion habitat, and a 30,000gal Penguin habitat. Construction is nearing completion and all exhibits will have state-of-the-art LSS equipment, SCADA systems and automation. The LSS/Water Quality Tech position will be responsible for operation of these systems and other aquatic LSS throughout the Zoo, as well as performing preventative maintenance, diving opportunities, special projects, and occasional coverage of the Water Quality Lab.
Functions & Responsibilities
Monitors water quality, clarity, and chemistry of aquatic exhibits.
Conducts the preventive maintenance and repair of LSS equipment.
Recommends and maintain the stock of required spare parts, tools, and test instruments.
Understands water chemistry and how it relates to life support system operations.
Troubleshoots and repairs life support systems and equipment.
Knowledge of control systems to monitor and record data.
Maintains system logs and records.
Maintains the highest standard of work area cleanliness.
Interface effectively with other departments to maintain the highest quality standards.
Follows and maintains all safety policies and procedures.
Maintenance diving on scuba and surface supplied air.
Assist with the production of synthetic seawater for marine systems.
Interacts with Zoo guests and maintains the highest level of guest satisfaction
Contributes to saving animals in the wild through the reduction of waste, water and energy use and inspiring guests and staff to take wildlife protecting actions.

Knowledge & Skills
Mechanically inclined, critical thinker, experience with water systems preferred. Sense of humor a plus.
Education & Experience
