The Aquatics Life Support Specialist will play a crucial role in maintaining the daily operations of our marine and animal life support systems. Your expertise will ensure optimal conditions for a diverse range of aquatic life, promoting their health and well-being. You will be responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and performing maintenance on sophisticated filtration and water quality systems while adhering to safety and environmental standards.

Functions & Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Control System Support: Conducts repairs on all life support mechanical systems, including pumps for fresh and saltwater exhibits, temperature control systems, valves, and pressure regulators.

Filtration Systems Operation: Monitoring and checking filters, adhering to backwashing schedules, and making necessary adjustments, including monitoring exhibit temperatures and levels, as well as ozone generator settings.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

Water Quality Management: Conduct thorough monitoring of water quality, covering temperature, salinity, pH, ORP, and clarity, adhering to aquarium standards.

Habitat Enrichment: Collaborating closely with the aquarists with handling of fish and reptiles.

Record-Keeping and Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of water quality parameters, feeding schedules, health assessments, and any notable observations or incidents related to the animals’ care.

Skills & Experience

Knowledge & Skills

Familiarity with municipal water, water processing, wastewater systems, or aquatic animal life support systems.

Experience working with centrifugal pumps and motors.

Experience working in an aquarium, zoo, or similar environment focused on animal care and aquatic systems.

Hands-on experience with water chemistry analysis and treatment, filtration systems, and mechanical maintenance.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education experience.

2 years of related experience in Aquatic Systems Maintenance, and Life Support Systems Operations.

Salary & Benefits
Salary: $20.96 per hour
