Building Systems Control Engineer
The Building Systems Controls Engineer will be responsible for programming, monitoring, and maintaining all automated building and animal life support systems. This position will work directly with the Facilities, Engineering, Aquatic Biology, and other departments to determine and set all appropriate parameters in the building and life support systems. This position reports to the Director of Facilities.
Functions & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Maintain control system hardware and software in proper working condition. Including HVAC Building Management Systems, aquarium filtration Life Support Systems, lighting controls, security access, cameras, irrigation, and other industrial hardware and software.
-Manage the design, installation and commissioning of new equipment and systems.
-Implement best practices, develop tools and methods for calibration.
-Schedule maintenance tasks.
-Manage technical service requests from Stationary Engineers, Operations, and other technical departments of the Academy.
-Conduct training of in-house service staff, including stationary engineers and electricians.
-Follow all Academy safety procedures and maintain a safe and clean work environment
-Follow all Academy safety regulations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
-The ideal candidate will have design-level understanding in Siemens Apogee building control systems and Allen Bradley Controllogix controllers.
-Must have excellent time management, organization skills.
-Strong, working knowledge of automation, control systems.
-Ability to learn new skills, working hands-on with electronics, computers, software, hardware and technology.
-Ability to work independently, think on their feet and solve challenging problems
-Must be able to juggle multiple ongoing tasks simultaneously
-Solid technical support skills working in a multi-user environment
-Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Outstanding customer service skills
-Self-starter willing to accept responsibility and drive projects forward
-Knowledge of and/or experience working a LEED-rated building a plus
-Valid California Driver’s License and good driving record
-Must be able to travel, work weekends/holidays and evenings as needed, with advance notice
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups or individuals.
Education & Experience
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of the following education and/or equivalent experience:
-A technical degree in electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering or related; or equivalent working experience.
-At least three (3) years of hands-on experience with building control systems, automation systems management and programming, including installations and maintenance.
-Project management experience with building control systems in new construction or existing facilities.
