Management of the Life Support team at Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay and supervision of the life support systems operations, facility operations and maintenance at Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay.

Functions & Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Management and supervision of the life support department.

Day to day supervision of the dive department.

Supervision of daily operations and maintenance of Shark Reef and all associated systems.

Planning and supervision of in-house projects as well as work done by contractors for Shark Reef.

Accurate record keeping of activity, inventory, maintenance, round sheets, water usage and water distribution logs.

Assistance with SCUBA diving and animal husbandry procedures as needed.

Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on life support equipment including pumps, motors, air compressors, heat exchangers, ozone generators and piping.

Maintain chemical balance of exhibit water to provide the cleanest, healthiest environment possible for the exhibit animals.

Inventory and ordering of materials necessary for life support operations and maintenance.

Assist with hiring of life support department and dive department staff.

Accomplish other tasks as needed

Skills & Experience

Knowledge & Skills

Experience with Aquatic Life Support System management or water management for at least 5 years

Experience in the maintenance of aquariums, aquatic life support systems, and use of water quality testing equipment.

Previous supervisory experience required.

Excellent customer service skills.

Have interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts.

Professional appearance and demeanor.

Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Able to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms.

Education & Experience

Experience with Aquatic Life Support System management or water management for at least 5 years

Experience in the maintenance of aquariums, aquatic life support systems, and use of water quality testing equipment.

Previous supervisory experience required.

Excellent customer service skills.

• Job requires a high degree of alertness to changing conditions with regard to exhibit environment and working with animals.
• Heavy lifting required.
• Exposure to animal bites, stings, pathogens, and chemicals.
• Exposure to slippery wet conditions and uneven surfaces. Climbing ladders and stairs on a regular basis.
• Required work in extreme weather conditions.
• Handling of hazardous chemicals.
• General computer and Office applications skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing conditions and the alertness of working with live animals.
• Possess experience and skill in public speaking and be able to interact with guests, management, veterinarians, and other individuals as required.
