The Oklahoma City Zoological Park & Botanical Garden is seeking an enthusiastic leader to join the animal care team to maintain the welfare of the Zoo’s assigned animal collection and its environment. The ideal candidate must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at all levels and possess excellent communication and organizational skills to function effectively in a team environment.
The Life Support Technician interacts with the public and enhances visitor experiences. Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Curator, this position performs a variety of skilled/semi-skilled work required for the care and safety of animals, staff, and the public. This position has the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform all operational requirements in the assigned area responsibilities as directed by the Assistant Curator and/or Curator.

Functions & Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Installs, monitors and repairs water filtration systems to maintain marine and freshwater environments.
• Maintains proper operations, temperature and safety of water filtration systems.
• Participates in Conservation activities that support’s the zoo’s mission.
• Participates and coordinates maintenance, marketing events, Guest Service needs, education, horticulture or other departmental needs as appropriate.

Skills & Experience

Education & Experience

• High School diploma or GED.
• 3 months experience working with animals (volunteer work included).
• OR, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
• Ability to pass annual TB tests.
