Life Support Systems (LSS) and Water Quality Technician
Responsible for the operation, repair, and maintenance of animal exhibit water features, ensuring optimal water quality, safety, and compliance.This role applies technical knowledge to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot complex life support systems. Working closely with maintenance and animal care teams, this role is critical to implementing preventative maintenance programs and proactively addressing operational challenges.
Functions & Responsibilities
Essential Functions
– Perform daily water quality testing (temperature, salinity, pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, chlorine) to ensure appropriate parameters across all habitats.
– Operate and inspect pumps, filters, and dosing/control systems, including preventative maintenance.
– Perform repairs on mechanical systems, plumbing, and electrical components related to aquatic systems.
– Maintain records of water quality, preventative maintenance, and supply inventory.
– Participate in LSS upgrades, installations, or habitat modifications as assigned.
– Proficiency in regulatory requirements, including USDA, DEP, and AZA standards.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Experience
Knowledge & Skills
– Proficiency in plumbing, machinery and electrical repairs.
– AALSO certifications are a plus!
– Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
Education & Experience
High School diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in environmental science, water technology, or mechanical systems preferred.
