It is the responsibility of the Biologist to be aware of all aspects of the Life Sciences Department. This includes maintaining all department protocols, adhering to policies, and fulfilling daily responsibilities concerning the care and maintenance of the animal collection. This position must also exhibit a high level of professional and personalized guest service that embodies the Company’s brand standard and core values (K.E.E.P. – Kindness, Engagement, Empathy and Positivity).

Functions & Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Perform daily husbandry routine as scheduled which includes but not limited to animal care / feeding, cleaning / maintaining exhibits, and SCUBA diving DAILY.
• Maintain accurate and informative daily animal records in ZIMS Species 360.
• Prepare daily diet and nutritional needs for the animal collection.
• Perform daily water quality testing of all exhibits using a HACH DR6000.
• Perform minor Life Support System maintenance as needed.
• Assist Director and Curatorial staff with medical treatments and husbandry procedures as needed.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct yourself in a helpful and respectful manner with all guest interactions.
• Participate in various public presentations, with or without animals.
• Communicate any animal related or other concerns to Life Sciences Director / Assistant Curator.
• Interact with dignitaries, professionals, special guests, VIPs, or tours as directed.
• Observe and help maintain department areas (and those not normally your responsibility) as directed.
• Assist in mentoring biologist positions.
• Report supply needs to Life Sciences Director / Assistant Curator.
• Assure exhibit “readiness” for opening in absence of Life Sciences Director / Assistant Curator.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), fluent English and articulate.
• Ability to work efficiently, independently, and consistently producing quality results.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in biology (or related field) preferred.
• Prefer a minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a public aquarium with teleost and/or elasmobranch species.

Job Requirements

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry and move a minimum of 50 lbs. as needed.
• Ability to SCUBA dive daily and complete a diving assessment on site once hired.
• Ability to be medically cleared by a physician for SCUBA before hire.

Salary & Benefits
Salary: $19/hr - $24/hr
Pay rate to be determined by experience level.
