Biologist
Golden Nugget is a hotel/casino located in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, which has a 200,000-gallon shark tank, a 75,000-gallon artificial reef aquarium, and a 17,000-gallon holding exhibit. The collection housed at our facility maintains over 100 species of marine fishes, including 5 species of elasmobranchs. The Golden Nugget is part of Landry’s Inc., which incorporates 4 other main aquariums throughout the country. The facility is American Humane Conservation certified and participates in ongoing conservation programs with a focus on daily animal welfare
We are seeking an experienced individual who can meet our job expectations and the level of animal care and welfare we proudly provide. The responsibilities of a Biologist include daily preparation of animal diets, feeding and training, exhibit water chemistry testing, SCUBA diving, and other husbandry needs.
Functions & Responsibilities
Essential Functions
• Perform daily husbandry routine as scheduled which includes but not limited to animal care / feeding, cleaning / maintaining exhibits, and SCUBA diving DAILY.
• Maintain accurate and informative daily animal records in ZIMS Species 360.
• Prepare daily diet and nutritional needs for the animal collection.
• Perform daily water quality testing of all exhibits using a HACH DR6000.
• Perform minor Life Support System maintenance as needed.
• Assist Director and Curatorial staff with medical treatments and husbandry procedures as needed.

• Maintain cleanliness and operation of all department areas and equipment as directed.
• Report supply needs to Life Sciences Management.
• Assure exhibit “readiness” for opening in absence of Life Sciences Management.
• Conduct yourself in a helpful and respectful manner with all guest interactions.
• Participate in various public presentations, with or without animals.
• Communicate any animal related or other concerns to Life Sciences Management.
• Interact with dignitaries, professionals, special guests, VIPs, or tours as directed.

Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in biology (or related field) preferred.
• Prefer a minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a public aquarium with teleost and/or elasmobranch species.
Job Requirements
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift, carry and move a minimum of 60 lbs.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to comfortably climb in and out of exhibits in 40+ lbs. of SCUBA gear.
• Ability to spend prolonged periods of time underwater at depths down to 20 ft.
