This is a full-time (40 hours per week with benefits), union position, which is subject to the successful completion of a probationary (or trial period) and the deduction of union dues. Sunday-Thursday shift.
The position is in the maintenance department. The candidate will perform work on aquatic features in a variety of animal areas as well as some non-animal aquatic features.

Functions & Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Daily backwashing and media changes of filtration systems
  • Developing and implementing preventative maintenance schedules for aquatic systems
  • Participate in Dive operations as needed (diver, standby, DPIC)
  • Performing minor repairs and assisting with major maintenance on aquatic systems and exhibits
  • Performs research and development pertaining to the design and operation of life support system components and/or the effectiveness of components or systems
  • Able to interpret water quality data and perform corrections to systems as needed

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assisting with and understanding disinfection including ozone systems, chlorination and UV sterilization.
  • Performing minor repairs and assisting major maintenance on plumbing throughout the zoo including but not limited to sinks, toilets, piping, and storm drains.
Skills & Experience

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must have 1-3 years of experience/training in mechanical repair, plumbing, life support systems and electrical systems.
  • Background in LSS piping, and small system designs are preferred.

Education & Experience

  • College degree in biology or life sciences preferred.

Physical Requirements

Candidate must also be able to stoop, bend, climb, lift and carry 50 lb.

Working Conditions

This position works both indoor and outdoor during all seasons.

Salary & Benefits
Salary: $21-$29 hourly based on experience
